"Last stand for student EMA grant"Why is there a last stand? Wasn't it decided with all the cuts that this is definitely going? Apparently not. "The government are guilty for thinking young people are targets for cuts" Why are they thinking that? They have never cared about our well-being before, they expect our lives to be perfect with the government making cuts. And they have made more impact on the older generation then our generation.
They have cut the NHS down, and the electric bills rise. Of course the older generation are feeling it a lot more then us teenagers. But we make a stand because we don't get £30 pound a week? Sure, with the people who need it of course, but, a single quote on the news page made me remove all sympathy.
"This is basic funding - it's used for pens, pencils, travel, text books. If you can't have this, you can't succeed,"... Right student. How many pens, pencils and textbooks do you possibly need? And shouldn't the schools provide the textbooks, (unless for revision) But they aren't that expensive? The VAT rise did not affect stationary that much?!
The EMA was a good idea, sure, the students who need help, get it. That's only fair? But it isn't. They have jobs on top of that, and if they waste their EMA every month on stationary surely they would have it stockpiled enough to deal with it? Why is money this important to teenagers? It's booze. Partying. Frivolous items they don't need. Many of you who get EMA would laugh at this point and say, "Yeah, so what?", well, it's that attitude which makes these stands pointless. If there was a survey which asked students on EMA who actually spent it towards school aids, I know over half would say No. That's how us teenagers work. We get money. And a choice of school or drink? That's not even debatable.
Anyway, these cuts are good for our generation to deal with, and some even threaten to drop out.. Isn't that normally the reason they join? They do sixth form or college to do a terrible subject like BTEC (apologies if you do BTEC and do not receive EMA) and then get EMA.
Maybe, because I don't receive EMA that I find the whole system annoying. But even if I did receive EMA, I would have still got a job, and yeah £30 less, but if it was taken away, I wouldn't care because I would have sub consciously knew it wasn't needed or used towards my studies.
Now, the controversial paragraph. "Now, let me hear why you think money sucks" Well general public, I like having money, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I like it. It's really nice to buy the things you want. Everyone enjoys that luxury. But to not have it doesn't mean your life is over or make us drop out of education for a bit of alcohol money. Money is not the most important thing in the World. Sure, it gets you places to have fun, but you can have fun without it. Making the EMA "last stand" a pointless attempt to get more money without actually needing it. ‘Last stand’ things tend to die anyway, and I for one, hope that this get's buried once and for all.
